Redescription of the Triassic cynodont Cistecynodon parvus and reassessment of its phylogeny

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Cynodontia is an important subclade of Therapsida that first occurred in the late Permian. It includes extinct subclades which are the non‐mammaliaform cynodonts and Mammaliaformes, with the latter ultimately giving rise to crown mammals. The systematics of non‐mammaliaform cynodonts has been extensively studied and is relatively well‐resolved,

Effect of a Surficial Porous Brittle Layer on the Dynamics and Equilibrium Thickness of Europa’s Ice Shell

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Tectonic and cryovolcanic features on Europa suggest a dynamically active ice shell with a highly deformable near-surface brittle layer. Shell thickness estimates based on geological interpretation and thermal modeling vary from 10 km to more than 30 km.

Paleopathology of a putative colossosaurian caudal vertebra (Neosauropoda: Titanosauria) from the Presidente Prudente Formation, Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Studies investigating paleopathologies in sauropods remain scarce despite their relative abundance in the fossil record. In this study we report new occurrence of paleopathological features, corresponding to a neoplasm found in a middle caudal vertebra (MCT.R.2120) of an advanced titanosaur from the Presidente Prudente Formation (Bauru Basin ...

Evolutionary radiation of large‐bodied gorgonopsians from the lower Abrahamskraal formation of South Africa

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The middle Permian represents a critical interval in therapsid evolution, when gorgonopsians emerged as some of the first specialized apex predators within terrestrial ecosystems. Despite their significance, the early diversification of Gorgonopsia in Gondwana remains poorly understood due to scarcity and fragmentary material.

Comparison of Reference Heights of O/N2 and ∑O/N2 Based on GUVI Dayside Limb Measurement

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2020
We define a new thermospheric concept, the reference heights of O/N2, referring to a series of thermospheric heights corresponding to the fixed ratios of O to N2 number density. Here, based on Global Ultraviolet Imager (GUVI) limb measurement, we compare

Planetary Geology: Goals, Future Directions, and Recommendations

open access: yes, 1988
Planetary exploration has provided a torrent of discoveries and a recognition that planets are not inert objects. This expanded view has led to the notion of comparative planetology, in which the differences and similarities among planetary objects are ...

Widespread distribution of large silesaurids evidenced by a new record from the Middle Triassic of southwest Gondwana

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
The largest silesaurid known from South America is described here, demonstrating that silesaurids reached large body sizes in southwestern Gondwana. This discovery further underscores the widespread geographic distribution and temporal persistence of large silesaurids across Pangea, despite faunal turnovers and environmental events such as the Carnian ...

Barnard Crater, Mars: Evidence of Glaciofluvial Activity in a Large, High-latitude Impact Crater in Southern Hellas

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Barnard, a 121.1 km diameter crater along the southern rim of Hellas basin, is a well-preserved complex crater with a history of burial, excavation, and fluvial/glacial activity on its floor and walls.
