A balanced state consistent with planetary-scale motion for quasi-geostrophic dynamics

open access: yesTellus: Series A, Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 2020
The role of planetary-scale zonally-asymmetric thermal forcing on large-scale atmospheric dynamics is crucial for understanding low-frequency phenomena in the atmosphere. Despite its paramount importance, good theoretical foundation for the understanding

Method for assessing the amplitude modulation of the stationary planetary waves [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2009
This short-communication presents a new method for assessing the amplitude modulation of the stationary planetary waves (SPWs). The suggested procedure allows estimating the contribution of the amplitude modulated SPWs to the field of the zonally ...

Winds and Waves (4 Min - 11 Yrs) in the Upper Middle Atmosphere (60-110 Km) at Saskatoon, Canada (52 Deg N, 107 Deg W): MF Radar (2.2 Mhz) Soundings 1973 - 1983 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Examples of gravity waves (GW), tides, planetary waves (PW), and circulation effects in the upper middle atmosphere are presented. Energy densities of GW, tides, and PW are compared.

Porosity Engineering of MXene Architectures: Toward High‐Performance Aqueous Electrochemical Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically summarizes recent advances in porosity engineering of MXenes, with a focused discussion on their structure‐governed energy storage properties. A critical analysis of structure–property relationships is presented across alkali‐ion batteries, multivalent‐ion batteries, and supercapacitors.

Reponses of middle atmospheric circulation to the 2009 major sudden stratospheric warming

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics, 2020
In this research, the roles of gravity waves and planetary waves in the change to middle atmospheric residual circulation during a sudden stratospheric warming period are differentiated and depicted separately by adopting the downward control principle ...

Radiative effects of ozone waves on the Northern Hemisphere polar vortex and its modulation by the QBO [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2018
The radiative effects induced by the zonally asymmetric part of the ozone field have been shown to significantly change the temperature of the NH winter polar cap, and correspondingly the strength of the polar vortex.

Constraints on wave drag parameterization schemes for simulating the quasi-biennial oscillation. Part II: combined effects of gravity waves and equatorial planetary waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This study examines the effect of combining equatorial planetary wave drag and gravity wave drag in a one-dimensional zonal mean model of the quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO). Several different combinations of planetary wave and gravity wave drag schemes

Planetary waves studied

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1969
A four‐year investigation is being made in the Pacific Ocean for unseen and elusive ocean waves that are thought to be about 1000 miles in length and take two weeks to a month to complete one cycle. Planetary waves are believed to be caused by the gravitational attraction of the sun and moon on the earth.

Wet Ball Milling Synthesis of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for High‐Efficiency, Controllable Magnetic Hyperthermia in Ovarian Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A wet ball‐milling method is presented to synthesize iron magnetic nanoparticles and evaluate their magnetic hyperthermia performance. Optimized particles (∼270 nm, Ms ∼114 emu/g) achieve ∼50°C heating under clinically safe alternating magnetic fields, while pulsed‐field operation enables controlled temperature regulation (∼30°C).

On the new modes of planetary-scale electromagnetic waves in the ionosphere [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2004
Using an analogy method the frequencies of new modes of the electromagnetic planetary-scale waves (with a wavelength of 103 km or more), having a weather forming nature, are found at different ionospheric altitudes.
