On the detection of satellites of extrasolar planets with the method of transits [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics Supplement Series, 1999
We compute the detection probability of satel- lites of extrasolar planets with the method of transits, un- der the assumption that the duration of the observations is at least as long as the planet orbital period. We separate the cases when the parent planet does and does not also transit over the star.

Spatial Temporal Analysis of Traffic Patterns during the COVID-19 Epidemic by Vehicle Detection Using Planet Remote-Sensing Satellite Images [PDF]

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
The spread of the COVID-19 since the end of 2019 has reached an epidemic level and has quickly become a global public health crisis. During this period, the responses for COVID-19 were highly diverse and decentralized across countries and regions. Understanding the dynamics of human mobility change at high spatial temporal resolution is critical for ...

On the Feasibility of Detecting Satellites of Extrasolar Planets via Microlensing [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2002
Although many methods of detecting extra-solar planets have been proposed and successful implementation of some of these methods enabled a rapidly increasing number of exoplanet detections, little has been discussed about the method of detecting satellites around exoplanets.

Coral Bleaching Detection in the Hawaiian Islands Using Spatio-Temporal Standardized Bottom Reflectance and Planet Dove Satellites [PDF]

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
We present a new method for the detection of coral bleaching using satellite time-series data. While the detection of coral bleaching from satellite imagery is difficult due to the low signal-to-noise ratio of benthic reflectance, we overcame this difficulty using three approaches: 1) specialized pre-processing developed for Planet Dove satellites, 2 ...

THE TRANSITING EXOPLANET SURVEY SATELLITE: SIMULATIONS OF PLANET DETECTIONS AND ASTROPHYSICAL FALSE POSITIVES [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is a NASA-sponsored Explorer mission that will perform a wide-field survey for planets that transit bright host stars. Here, we predict the properties of the transiting planets that TESS will detect along with the eclipsing binary stars that produce false-positive photometric signals. The predictions are

Microlensing planet detection via geosynchronous and low Earth orbit satellites [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2015
Planet detection through microlensing is usually limited by a well-known degeneracy in the Einstein timescale $t_E$, which prevents mass and distance of the lens to be univocally determined. It has been shown that a satellite in geosynchronous orbit could provide masses and distances for most standard planetary events ($t_E \approx 20$ days) via a ...

Chemical and Dynamical Processes in the Atmospheres of I. Ancient and Present-Day Earth, II. Jupiter and Galileo Satellite, III. Extrasolar “Hot Jupiters” [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
When exposed to stellar UV radiation, chemical processes will be governed not only by temperature/pressure but also the spectrum of the incoming dissociative photon flux; the system will approach kinetic, or photochemical, equilibrium, instead of ...
