Genome Evolution of Plant-Parasitic Nematodes

Annual Review of Phytopathology, 2017
Plant parasitism has evolved independently on at least four separate occasions in the phylum Nematoda. The application of next-generation sequencing (NGS) to plant-parasitic nematodes has allowed a wide range of genome- or transcriptome-level comparisons, and these have identified genome adaptations that enable parasitism of plants.

EVOLUTION OF PLANT PARASITISM AMONG NEMATODES

Annual Review of Phytopathology, 2004
▪ Abstract  Despite extraordinary diversity of free-living species, a comparatively small fraction of nematodes are parasites of plants. These parasites represent at least three disparate clades in the nematode tree of life, as inferred from rRNA sequences.

RNA interference and plant parasitic nematodes

Trends in Plant Science, 2005
RNA interference (RNAi) has recently been demonstrated in plant parasitic nematodes. It is a potentially powerful investigative tool for the genome-wide identification of gene function that should help improve our understanding of plant parasitic nematodes.

Biological Control of Plant Parasitic Nematodes

1992
In biological control of plant diseases and nematodes in cropping system one could shift from the concept of direct control vs. the concept of management which is a complex procedure directed to reduce and maintain the numbers of pests/pathogens to noninjurious levels rather than to eradicate them.

Plant parasitic nematodes of potato.

2014
Abstract This chapter describes the current main nematode parasites of potato, which include the potato cyst nematodes (Globodera rostochiensis, G. pallida and G. ellingtonae), root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.), false root-knot nematodes (Nacobbus aberrans), root-lesion nematodes (Pratylenchus spp.), stubby-root nematodes (Paratrichodorus ...

Plant Parasitic Nematodes in the Sudan

Nematologica, 1970
Some 24 species of plant parasitic nematodes were found associated with 27 crop plants, one ornamental plant and 4 weeds in cultivated soils of the Gezira area and other localities in the Sudan. Among the predominant forms were Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus, Tylenchulus, Longidorus and Xiphinema species. Meloidogyne species (M. arenaria, M. incognita and M.

Underpopulation in Plant Parasitic Nematodes

Nematologica, 1968
In a pot experiment rates of multiplication of Rotylenchus uniformis (Thorne) on peas were considerably higher and proportions of adults in the final populations considerably lower at high initial densities than at lower ones. Both observations are in agreement with the hypothesis that at very low initial densities the proportions of adult females that

Sampling and Extraction of Plant Parasitic Nematodes

The study of nematodes requires availability of nematode specimens and their population densities in plants and soil. This can be achieved using adequate sampling schemes and extraction methods. In this chapter, the most common and suitable sampling and extraction procedures and equipment are described. These include the use of Baermann's funnels, Cobb'

Transcriptomes of Plant-Parasitic Nematodes

2011
Undoubtedly, transcriptomic analysis has contributed significantly to the understanding of the molecular basis of parasitism by plant-parasitic nematodes. In this chapter we will review the contributions by this approach. We will discuss the generation of EST sequences and their characteristics.
