Osmium isotope geochemistry of steel plant emissions using tree bark biomonitoring [PDF]
We report for the first time the Os isotopic composition of tree bark samples from a steel town. Osmium concentrations and 187Os/188Os isotopic ratios of ashed bark samples range from 1.40 to 24 ppt and 0.70 to 1.54, respectively, with the lowest 187Os/188Os recorded in samples close to the steel plant.

Contribution of plant anatomy to forensic investigation: Tree bark morphology
Plant science has been more and more utilized in forensic investigation, although its full potential is still to be reached. Plant macroremains are a powerful tool to link a body or other evidence back to a primary crime scene as they can provide detailed information about its previous ecological and geographic location. However, plant macroremains are

Priorities for Bark Anatomical Research: Study Venues and Open Questions
The bark fulfils several essential functions in vascular plants and yields a wealth of raw materials, but the understanding of bark structure and function strongly lags behind our knowledge with respect to other plant tissues.

Background Plants are attacked by diverse insect and mammalian herbivores and respond with different physical and chemical defences. Transcriptional changes underlie these phenotypic changes. Simulated herbivory has been used to study the transcriptional

Comparing Exogenous Methods to Induce Plant-Resistance Against a Bark-Feeding Insect [PDF]
Exogenous application of the plant hormone methyl jasmonate (MeJA) can trigger induced plant defenses against herbivores, and has been shown to provide protection against insect herbivory in conifer seedlings. Other methods, such as mechanical damage to seedlings, can also induce plant defenses, yet few have been compared to MeJA and most studies lack ...
