Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Isozymes in plant breeding

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1982
Not available – first paragraph follows: Isozymes are multiple molecular forms of an enzyme derived from a tissue of an organism. They are usually separated when an electric charge causes their migration through a gel, and they are visualized when the ...

Mutation of PUB21 in tomato leads to reduced susceptibility to necrotrophic fungi

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Cultivated tomato is susceptible to necrotrophic pathogens Botrytis cinerea and Alternaria solani. No dominant resistance against these pathogens has been reported in wild relatives of tomato.

Copy number variation of Ppd-B1 is the major determinant of heading time in durum wheat

open access: yesBMC Genetics, 2019
Background Heading time is an important adaptive trait in durum wheat. In hexaploid wheat, Photoperiod-1 (Ppd) loci are essential regulators of heading time, with Ppd-B1 conferring photoperiod insensitivity through copy number variations (CNV).

Organic plant breeding: a challenge for practice and science [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper gives a short overview of the current practical and scientific challenges of plant breeding programmes for organic agriculture in Europe. Research is challenged to prove that organic plant breeding is more than just conventional plant breeding

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Stability and Adaptability of Triticale (Triticosecale Wittm. ex A. Camus) Varieties Across Environmental Conditions in the Highlands of Southern Ethiopia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy
Triticale combines the yield and quality of wheat with the disease resistance of rye. To choose stable and reasonably high-yielding varieties and to estimate the degree of variation and environmental interactions, five triticale varieties and one local ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Epigenetics and organic plant breeding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
One characteristic of process oriented organic plant breeding is that all breeding activities from the initial crosses up to final variety propagation are performed under organic growing conditions, allowing the plant to interact with its target ...
