Identification of early molecular markers associated with the mantled phenotype in micropropagated oil palms by subtractive PCR and cDNA array analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Tissue culture of oil palm induces somaclonal variation. The main one, known as the mantled abnormality, displays homeotic floral modifications and is associated with a lower oil yield. To detect abnormal cell lines as early as possible during the tissue

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Agrobacterium pRi TL-DNA rolB and TR-DNA Opine Genes Transferred to the Spiny Amaranth (Amaranthus spinosus L.), A Nutraceutical Crop

open access: yesFood Technology and Biotechnology, 2013
In vitro rhizogenesis occurred with a characteristic pattern typical of transformed roots following explant (internode/leaf) inoculation of Amaranthus spinosus L. with four different wild type Agrobacterium rhizogenes strains.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Physiological and transcriptomic evidence for a close coupling between chloroplast ontogeny and cell cycle progression in the pennate diatom Seminavis robusta [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Despite the growing interest in diatom genomics, detailed time series of gene expression in relation to key cellular processes are still lacking. Here, we investigated the relationships between the cell cycle and chloroplast development in the pennate ...

In vitro induced cold memory fails to enhance embryogenic cultures development in Araucaria angustifolia [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
This research aimed to study how exposing somatic embryos of Araucaria angustifolia to cold temperatures in vitro could enhance somatic embryogenesis. The somatic embryos were induced from immature zygotic embryos, grown for 120 days, and then subjected ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Autophagy is activated and involved in cell death with participation of cathepsins during stress-induced microspore embryogenesis in barley [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Microspores are reprogrammed towards embryogenesis by stress. Many microspores die after this stress, limiting the efficiency of microspore embryogenesis. Autophagy is a degradation pathway that plays critical roles in stress response and cell death.
