Antibacterial properties of plant essential oils
International Journal of Food Microbiology, 1987Abstract Fifty plant essential oils were examined for their antibacterial properties against 25 genera of bacteria. Four concentrations of each oil were tested using an agar diffusion technique. The ten most inhibitory oils were thyme, cinnamon, bay, clove, almond (bitter), lovage, pimento, marjoram, angelica and nutmeg.

Essential plant oils and headache mechanisms
Phytomedicine, 1995The rationale for using essential oils to alleviate headache is based on several assumptions. Especially for peppermint oil certain analgesic mechanisms were recently described. Local application of peppermint oil generates a long-lasting cooling effect on the skin, caused by a steric alteration of the calcium channels of the cold-receptors. Further it

Essential Oil Plants of Southern Arizona
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1961Examination of thirty-five species of southern Arizona plants for their steam-volatile oil content is reported. Fresh-weight yields from 0.01 to 0.9 per cent were obtained. Based on the physical and chemical properties of the extract, Dalea lumholtzii contained up to 78 per cent of oxygenated terpenes, Lippia wrightii showed about 80 per cent of ...

Essential oils from Mediterranean aromatic plants
2015Essential oils are concentrated natural products characterized by a strong odor and formed by aromatic plants as secondary metabolites. They are variable mixtures of principally terpenoids, especially monoterpenes ), and sesquiterpenes, although diterpenes may also be present along with a variety of other molecules.

Anticonflict Effects of Plant-Derived Essential Oils
Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1999The present study examined the pharmacological actions of four different plant-derived essential oils (rose, ylang-ylang, camomile, orange) in two types of conflict tests using ICR mice. In the Vogel conflict test, in which any drinking behavior of the mice was punished by an electric shock, the benzodiazepine agonist, diazepam (DZ), increased the ...
