Castanospermine?a plant growth regulator
Journal of Chemical Ecology, 1988Castanospermine, 1,6,7,8-tetrahydroxyoctahydroindolizine, has been shown to be a potent dicot phytotoxin. The effective concentration to inhibit root length elongation of dicot roots by 50% is 300 ppb, while the effective concentration against monocot roots is 200 ppm, i.e., 10(3) times less effective.

This chapter reviews the use of plant growth regulator for fresh vegetable and fruit quality. Endogenous plant growth regulators, also named phytohormones, are important regulator of many functions in plant development and physiology. First, this chapter describes the five major classes of PGR (auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, abscisic acid, and ...

Plant Science Piezo sensors in animal cells are localized in the cell membrane and transduce mechanical signals. The cell membrane of plant cells, unlike that of animal cells, is usually plastered up against a stiff cell wall and does not have much mobility.

Melatonin: A New Plant Hormone and/or a Plant Master Regulator?
Trends in Plant Science, 2019Melatonin is a pleiotropic molecule with many diverse actions in plants. It is considered primarily an antioxidant with important actions in the control of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS and RNS), among other free radicals, and harmful ...

Plant Growth Regulators, Viruses and Plant Growth
1990Virus infection alters plant growth and development. The role of plant growth regulators (PGRs) in control of these processes in diseased plants is reviewed, taking tobacco mosaic virus infections of tobacco and tomato as the main model systems. Growth inhibition was related primarily to severity of visible mosaic symptoms rather than to the extent of ...
