Classical Complement Pathway Inhibition in a Pediatric Patient With Refractory Immune Thrombocytopenia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric refractory immune thrombocytopenia (rITP) is generally characterized by persistent thrombocytopenia and failure to achieve a sustained response to multiple standard therapies. We report a 4‐year‐old female with congenital tufting enteropathy, post‐intestinal transplant patient on immunosuppressants, who developed severe rITP ...

Evidence‐Based Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Pediatric Febrile Neutropenia: Resource‐Sensitive Recommendations for the Asian Continent

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Febrile neutropenia (FN) is a frequent and serious complication in children receiving cancer therapy. Standardizing FN management across Asia is challenging due to variable healthcare infrastructure, diagnostic capacity, and infection patterns; however, it could improve resource use and patient outcomes.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Plant Invasions into Mountain Protected Areas: Assessment, Prevention and Control at Multiple Spatial Scales

open access: yes, 2013
Mountains are of great significance for people and biodiversity. Although often considered to be at low risk from alien plants, recent studies suggest that mountain ecosystems are not inherently more resistant to invasion than other types of ecosystems ...

The laccase gene MdLac18 decouples the growth-defense trade-off by orchestrating lignification to enhance aphid resistance and biomass accumulation in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Enhancing resistance to piercing-sucking pests while preserving superior agronomic performance remains a key challenge in plant breeding, constrained by the classical “growth-defense trade-off”.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Niche Characteristics of Alternanthera philoxeroide-Invaded Plant Communities in Heterogeneous Habitats and Their Latitudinal Trends

open access: yesDiversity, 2023
Plant invasions are closely related to environmental filtering and biointeractions; however, the variations in invasive plant niches along latitudinal gradients in heterogeneous habitats remain unclear.

Savanna aliens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Numerous alien plant species are invading African savannas causing loss of biodiversity and altering ecosystem functioning. The ecological factors and underlying mechanisms causing these invasions are poorly understood.

The potential for biological control on cryptic plant invasions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Cryptic invasions can be defined as ‘the occurrence of an invasive species or genotype that was not previously recognised as alien in origin or not distinguished from other aliens’.

Predicting and managing plant invasions on offshore islands

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, 2021
Resources for biodiversity conservation are limited and it is therefore imperative that management actions that have the best chance of success are prioritized.
