The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Stakeholders’ perceptions of plant invasions in Galicia, Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The perceptions, knowledge and values of stakeholders are essential for effective implementation and support of policies against biological invasions. In this study we focus on deliberate introduction pathways of alien plants and their impacts in Galicia

Invasive Plants: Turning Enemies into Value [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
In this review, a brief description of the invasive phenomena associated with plants and its consequences to the ecosystem is presented. Five worldwide invasive plants that are a threat to Portugal were selected as an example, and a brief description of each is presented.

Mapping the extent and spread of multiple plant invasions can help prioritise management in Galapagos National Park

open access: yesNeoBiota, 2014
Mapping is an important tool for the management of plant invasions. If landscapes are mapped in an appropriate way, results can help managers decide when and where to prioritize their efforts.

One year spread and insight into ecology of invasive Impatiens glandulifera in Ljubljansko barje area (Central Slovenia)

open access: yesActa Biologica Slovenica, 2022
Impatiens glandulifera Royle (Himalayan balsam) is an annual plant, native to humid parts of the Himalayas. Brought to Europe in the XIX century, it has since successfully naturalized and spread throughout the continent, becoming one of the best ...

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Invasive plant impacts on grassland ecosystems: A meta-analysis and its implications for the food-water-energy security [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Grassland ecosystems play a crucial role in supporting food, water, and energy security, yet they are highly vulnerable to the invasion of non-native plant species.

Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.

Effects of Invasive Plants on Arthropods [PDF]

open access: yesConservation Biology, 2014
Abstract Non‐native plants have invaded nearly all ecosystems and represent a major component of global ecological change. Plant invasions frequently change the composition and structure of vegetation communities, which can alter animal communities and ecosystem processes.
