[Ribosome-inactivating lectins from plants].
Molekuliarnaia biologiia, 2006There is a heterogeneous group of plant proteins which are able to enzymatically inactivate ribosomes by depurination of an invariant adenine from the 28 S ribosomal RNA. Some of these proteins are heterodimers having a lectin subunit which is joined by disulfide bond to the enzymatic subunit.

[Lectins, sugar-binding plant proteins].
Die Naturwissenschaften, 1978Lectins are proteins which can bind to the surfaces of animal and human cells. They are widespread in the plant and animal kingdom. Though many lectins have been isolated and characterized, and though some are extensively used as cell surface "tools", their biological role is only subject to hypotheses.

Lectins and Plant-Herbivore Interactions
1981When an animal takes a bite out of a plant, it is gustatorily and digestively treading on a battlefield implanted and strewn with traits generated by natural selection during millions of years of acts of herbivory. The glycoproteins called lectins are heterogeneous in kind, place and density in this battlefield.
