Decoupling the Impact of Deep‐Trap and Band‐Tail States on PbS Quantum Dot Photodetectors via Alkylamine Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Band‐tail and deep trap states are effectively disentangled through the use of selective alkylamine additives. PA‐driven 2D ordering narrows band tails, while HA enhances halide passivation and Pb coordination to suppress deep traps. A comparative study of their CQD short‐wave infrared (SWIR) photodetectors further reveals whether band‐tail states or ...

Understanding Ionic Flow in Nanofluidic Blind‐Hole Anodic Aluminum Oxide (AAO) Membranes for Osmotic Energy Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes have traditionally served as structural supports in osmotic energy systems. Here, blind‐hole AAO membranes are demonstrated as active ion‐selective platforms with tunable nanopore structures. By balancing membrane resistance, ion selectivity, and flux, enhanced performance is achieved, delivering a maximum power ...

Chip‐Integrated Metasurface‐GaAsSb Nanowire Array Photodetectors for Single‐Pixel Polarimetric Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A 2×2 multiplexed GaAsSb nanowire photodetector array integrated with L‐shaped metasurfaces is developed for miniaturized infrared polarimetry. Leveraging non‐radiating anapole states that facilitate near‐field enhancement, the device demonstrates strong polarization selectivity at 835 nm.

Proline accumulation in Impatiens walleriana shoots after different dehydration treatments

open access: yes, 2015
Impatiens walleriana is an ornamental plant sensitive to dehydration with tendency to wilt without water. Proper tissue dehydration is a necessary step in cryopreservation protocols to avoid formation of intracellular ice crystals which are lethal for ...

Mechanisms Involved in Cell Wall Remodeling in Etiolated Rice Shoots Grown Under Osmotic Stress

open access: yes
Osmotic stress impacts the cell wall properties in plants. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms involved in cell wall remodeling in etiolated (dark-grown) rice (Oryza sativa L.) shoots grown under polyethylene glycol (PEG)-induced osmotic stress ...

Scalable Task Planning via Large Language Models and Structured World Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work efficiently combines graph‐based world representations with the commonsense knowledge in Large Language Models to enhance planning techniques for the large‐scale environments that modern robots will need to face. Planning methods often struggle with computational intractability when solving task‐level problems in large‐scale environments ...

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

In vivo regeneration efficiency of enset (Ensete ventricosum (Welw.) Cheesman) as affected by age of parent plant and corm proportion

open access: yesCABI Agriculture and Bioscience
In cultivation, E. ventricosum is propagated clonally with adventitious buds sprouting from callus formed on the cut surfaces of the corm. The present study was conducted to enhance the efficiency of this indigenous enset propagation technique by ...

The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...
