Micromorpho‐anatomical studies on the leaves and woods of Turkish Daphne (Thymelaeaceae) taxa

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
The identification of Daphne taxa is difficult because of the lack of available morphological characteristics. Here, we aimed to describe leaf and wood micromorpho‐anatomical characteristics of native Turkish Daphne taxa (D. glomerata, D. gnidioides, D. mezereum, D. mucronata, D. oleoides subsp. kurdica, D. pontica and D.

Calcium signaling in plant defense

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, EarlyView.
Calcium signaling acts as a central hub in plant immunity, translating pathogen perception into defense responses. This review highlights the channels, sensors, and signaling networks involved, and discusses how pathogens subvert calcium dynamics, as well as how this knowledge may inspire innovative strategies for engineering durable crop resistance ...

Friends or foes? Polyploidy and competition in a grassland geophyte

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Previous studies have suggested polyploids may possess a competitive advantage over diploids, due to their larger size, increased vigour or ability to better respond to abiotic stress. However, few studies have tested the effect of polyploidy on competitive ability directly, and only relatively recently has this oversight begun to be addressed. Here we
