Ecogenomic survey of plant viruses infecting Tobacco by Next generation sequencing

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2016
BackgroundThe invasion of plant by viruses cause major damage to plants and reduces crop yield and integrity. Devastating plant virus infection has been experienced at different times all over the world, which are attributed to different events of ...

CircCCNB1 inhibits vasculogenic mimicry by sequestering NF90 to promote miR‐15b‐5p and miR‐7‐1‐3p processing in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CircCCNB1 expression is down‐regulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); thus, less NF90 protein is bound to circCCNB1 and more binds to pri‐miRNAs, blocking their (pri‐miRNAs) binding to DGCR8 and inhibiting the processing and generation of miR‐15b‐5p/miR‐7‐1‐3p. Furthermore, decreased miR‐15b‐5p/miR‐7‐1‐3p promotes the expression of the target genes

Detection of Plant Pathogenic Viruses in Commercial Gochujang (Fermented Red Pepper Paste) from Korea

open access: yesThe Plant Pathology Journal, 2020
The potential transmission of plant pathogenic viruses through processed foods could be a source of concern for global crop production; however, there is a lack of supporting evidence.

Viruses mobilize plant immunity to deter nonvector insect herbivores. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A parasite-infected host may promote performance of associated insect vectors; but possible parasite effects on nonvector insects have been largely unexplored. Here, we show that Begomovirus, the largest genus of plant viruses and transmitted exclusively

Viruses in Plants

open access: yesThe American Biology Teacher, 1939
Many people are unaware that plants have diseases,-that they are afflicted by the same pathogenic agents as attack animals and man. Fungi, bacteria, viruses, insects, and nematodes are important agents causing plant maladies. Plants also suffer from serious deficiency diseases.

Helical capsids of plant viruses: architecture with structural lability.

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2016
Capsids of numerous filamentous and rod-shaped plant viruses possess helical symmetry. In positive-stranded RNA viruses, helical capsids are typically composed of many identical subunits of the viral capsid protein (CP), encapsidating a molecule of viral

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.
