Optimal Substrate Moisture Content for Kiwifruit (Actinidia valvata Dunn) Seedling Growth Based on Analyses of Biomass, Antioxidant Defense, and Photosynthetic Response

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
The fruits of kiwifruit are well known for their abundant nutritional value and health benefits, but kiwifruit vines are susceptible to environmental factors such as drought or waterlogging.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Effect of Different Sources of Phosphorus and Boron on Chemical Composition and Water Relations in Leaves, Growth, Productivity and Quality of Egyptian Cotton. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Production, 2017
Two field experiments were carried out on clay soil in El-Gemmeiza Agric. Res. St., ARC, El-Gharbiya Governorate, Egypt during 2015 and 2016 seasons to study the effect of four phosphorus and boron fertilizers sources on leaves chemical composition ...

Multi-environment factors dominate plant community structure and diversity in an ombrotrophic bog: The water level is the main regulating mechanism

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
Understanding the relationship between vegetation and the environment is critical to manage bog ecosystems. However, information on how environmental factors influence the species composition and diversity in the ombrotrophic bog of Northeast China is ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Carbon dioxide exchange in lichens: Relationship between the diffusive resistance of carbon dioxide and water vapour

open access: yes, 1982
Gaseous diffusion resistances for carbon dioxide and water vapour, thallus water content and thallus water potential were experimentally determined on species of the Stictaceae.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Effects of genotype and sowing date on phytostanol-phytosterol content and agronomic traits in wheat under organic agriculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Cereals are an important source of sterols and stanols in the human diet. The present study underlines the effect of genotype and weather conditions in bread wheat, on total sterol and stanol content (TSS), agronomic traits, proteins and ash content ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Effects of Glomus intraradices on the drought resistance and growth of corn plant (Zea mays L.)

open access: yesمجلة المختار للعلوم, 2017
A pot experiment was carried out at the greenhouse of Faculty of Agriculture (Saba bacha), Alexandria University. The experiment was conducted to investigate the role of Glomus intraradices fungi in the effects on the growth and water requirement of pot-
