The effect of local cooling on growth and water content of plants.

open access: yesNetherlands Journal of Agricultural Science, 1972
In maize cv. Pioneer 395 grown in controlled environment in Hoagland solution at 20 deg C with 18-h photoperiods, low-temperature treatment of localized parts of the plant inhibited leaf elongation to an extent dependent on the site of cooling.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Development of a thermal sensor for probing small volumes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis presents the design, fabrication and characterisation of a thermal micro-sensor capable of operating on small scale samples. It was initially characterised by measuring the thermal conductivity of 100 μl liquid droplets and thin materials ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Influence of Potamogeton crispus growth on nutrients in the sediment and water of Lake Tangxunhu

open access: yes, 2008
An incubation experiment was performed on Potamogeton crispus (P. crispus) using sediment collected from Lake Tangxunhu in the center of China, in order to determine the effects of plant growth on Fe, Si, Cu, Zn, Mn, Mg, P, and Ca concentrations in the ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Landscape‐Scale Plant Water Content and Carbon Flux Behavior Following Moisture Pulses: From Dryland to Mesic Environments

open access: yes, 2021
Rain pulses followed by interstorm drying periods are the fundamental units of water input into ecosystems on subweekly time scales. It is essential to understand landscape-scale vegetation responses on these unit time scales as they may describe ...

Toward Noninvasive Monitoring of Plant Leaf Water Content by Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy

open access: yesComputers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2022
Plant water content is one key factor that affects the wellbeing of plants. Furthermore, detecting plant water needs in a timely manner is important when considering irrigation strategies (water management). A first step toward plant water monitoring is the availability of a portable and cost-effective system that yields reliable information ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

A novel, non-invasive, online-monitoring, versatile and easy plant-based probe for measuring leaf water status

open access: yes, 2008
A high-precision pressure probe is described which allows non-invasive online-monitoring of the water relations of intact leaves. Real-time recording of the leaf water status occurred by data transfer to an Internet server.
