Weed seed production, crop planting pattern, and mechanical weeding in wheat
Weed Science, 2002Abstract Experiments were carried out to investigate weed seed production in widely spaced spring wheat crops that received aggressive mechanical weed control (hoeing and harrowing) compared with that in narrowly spaced crops receiving less aggressive mechanical control (harrowing only). Three species (wild buckwheat [Polygonum convolvulus], ladysthumb

Weed competition in spring‐planted raspberries
Weed Research, 1976Summary:Spring‐planted raspberries (Rubus idaeus L. cv. Malling Jewel) were exposed to competition from annual weeds for various lengths of time during the first growing season. Weeds germinating following crop planting in late March had no effect on numbers of new canes produced provided weed removal occurred by early June.

Weed competition in spring‐planted strawberries
Weed Research, 1976Summary:Annual weeds germinating after planting strawberry (Fragaria chiloensis (L.) Duch. cv. Cambridge Favourite) in late March had no effect on crop growth if removed by late May. Dense weed cover thereafter severely inhibited stolon growth, virtually eliminating it if allowed to remain beyond mid‐August.
