Desert Plant Inspired Hierarchical Nanofibrous Membranes for Integrated Solar Desalination and Heavy Metal Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An Alhagi maurorum inspired hierarchical composite membrane (NFCu) was developed by integrating heavy metal remediation and solar‐driven interfacial evaporation in a single platform. Beyond the photothermal effect, a localized photocatalytic process is realized on the CuO surface, deepening the mechanistic understanding of light–matter–water ...

Protein‐Nanoarchitectures for Low‐Field Intracellular Electro‐Immunomodulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DHQ‐SDH‐mediated binding of AuNPs drives the formation of interconnected, chain‐like nanoarchitectures with enhanced electrical conductivity. These conductive assemblies undergo macrophage uptake and enable low‐field electrical stimulation, promoting M1‐to‐M2 phenotypic switching with decreased iNOS and increased CD206 expression. Such protein‐mediated

Biodegradable 3D‐Printable and Coatable Antifouling Composites for Marine Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Marine biofouling damages submerged surfaces and raises greenhouse gas emissions. Biodegradable antifouling biocomposites were developed by hot‐mixing beeswax, Tween 80, and calcium stearate or stearic acid. Adjusting the component ratio enables processing via hot‐pressing, 3D‐printing, or dip‐coating.

From Cell‐Derived Vesicles to Hybrid Nanovectors: Biological Membranes as Functional Blueprints for Gene Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Biologically derived and hybrid nonviral nanovectors are examined as distinct but convergent design approaches. Integrating synthetic components with biologically functionalized membranes allows efficient interactions with complex cellular environments.

Lignin Mimicking Protein Methylation Augments the Efficacy of FOLFOX Chemotherapy by Anchoring Thymidylate Synthase

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lignin‐mimicking protein methylation can enhance the efficacy and mitigate the toxicity of the classic FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen. ABSTRACT FOLFOX has served as the standard chemotherapy regimen for advanced stages, specifically in the treatment of pancreatic, colorectal, and bladder cancers.

Accessing the Effect of Phyllotaxy and Planting Density on Light Use Efficiency in Field-Grown Maize using 3D Reconstructions [PDF]

open access: yes
High-density planting is a widely adopted strategy to enhance maize productivity, yet it introduces challenges such as increased interplant competition and shading, which can limit light capture and overall yield potential. In response, some maize plants

Insectivorous Plants

open access: yes, 1875
Darwin had long been fascinated by insectivorous plants, from the native British sundews and bladderworts to the exotic pinguiculas and nepenthes which he encountered during the Beagle voyage. Growing in environments low in soil nutrients, their highly specialised ways of obtaining enough food, including the capability for fast movement in the case of ...

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.
