Membrane bias effects on plasma-driven permeation of hydrogen through niobium membrane

Niobium membrane was immersed in hydrogen plasma in order to study its interaction with hydrogen ions in the energy range from a few eV to 200 eV, controlled by changing the membrane bias. Surface effects on plasma-driven tritium permeation through metals

The model for the plasma-driven tritium permeation proposed by Doyle and Brice [J. Vac. Sci. Technol. A 5 (4) (1987) 2311] and by Waelbroeck et al. [Forschungazentrum, Julich, Germany, Jul-1996, 1984] has been developed. An improved analytical expression for the plasma-driven tritium permeation in the steady state is presented.

For the 100 μm and 25 um NB membranes the nonmonotone temperature dependence of plasma driven permeation was observed. The steady state permeation efficiency is inversely proportional to thickness of membrane. It means that permeation efficiency is limited by diffusion.
