Why Do Equatorial Plasma Bubbles Bifurcate?
AbstractIonospheric plasma bubble observations using all‐sky airglow imagers in the OI 630‐nm emission show bifurcations with complex patterns. Bifurcation is the division of one channel of the plasma bubble into two that grow vertically in the magnetic equator. Several theories have been suggested to explain the bifurcation mechanism.

Carbon‐free inert anodes are essential for decarbonizing aluminum electrolysis. This study investigates a recyclate‐based MgO‐316L steel composite anode tested under galvanostatic Hall–Héroult conditions in cryolite at 1000°C. Microstructural analysis reveals selective MgO fluorination, spinel and oxide layer formation, electrolyte infiltration, and ...

Seasonal-longitudinal variability of equatorial plasma bubbles [PDF]
We compare seasonal and longitudinal distributions of more than 8300 equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) observed during a full solar cycle from 1989-2000 with predictions of two simple models.

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Growth of multifractal tungsten nanostructure by He bubble induced directional swelling
Helium (He) plasma irradiation to tungsten (W) leads to morphology changes in nanometer scale by the formation and growth of He bubbles. Initially pinholes and protrusions are formed on the surface followed by the formation of nanostructures.

On the exclusion of intra-cluster plasma from AGN-blown bubbles [PDF]
Simple arguments suggest that magnetic fields should be aligned tangentially to the surface of an AGN-blown bubble. If this is the case, charged particles from the fully ionised intra-cluster medium (ICM) will be prevented, ordinarily, from crossing the ...

Through direct application of porous transport layer (PTL) on the bipolar plate (BPP) with thermal spraying, the interfacial contact resistance is improved. With the cold gas sprayed BPP–PTL coating system, a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell with a cell voltage of Ucell = 1.9 V can be operated up to i = 2.5 A/cm2 in a dynamic mode ...

Bubble regime in deep plasma channels [PDF]
We consider the advantages of the bubble regime in plasmas with deep channels. Particle-in-cell simulations for laser-driven bubbles show that the use of hollow channels allows one to significantly improve the quality of resulting electron bunches. An analytical theory for the bubble in radially non-uniform plasmas is developed.
