Real-time feedback control of the impurity emission front in tokamak divertor plasmas

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
The exhaust of heat and particles is an important challenge in future nuclear fusion devices. Here the authors report the use of carbon emission as indicator for plasma detachment in a tokamak and its real-time feedback control.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Control of Electron Temperature of a Plasma in Double Plasma Device

open access: yesJournal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1975
A method is described for varying the electron temperature of a plasma (target-plasma) in a double plasma device from 0.05 to 1.3 eV by adjusting the thermionic emission of electrons from filaments used in the region.

Growth and Renal Control of Plasma Phosphate

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1972
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR),maximal tubular reabsorption of phosphate (TmPO4), and fasting plasma phosphate have been measured in states of normal growth (childhood) and pathological growth (“active” acromegaly, pituitary dwarfism) and in adult controls. GFR and TmPO4 were corrected for a mean body area of 1 m2 73.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

RFX-mod2 as a flexible device for reversed-field-pinch and low-field tokamak research

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The RFX-mod2 installation is planned to be completed by 2024 and the start of operations is expected in 2025. The high flexibility of the machine (already tested in the previous RFX-mod experiment) allows operation in Reversed Field Pinch and tokamak ...

Potent Anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 Efficacy of COVID‐19 Hyperimmune Globulin from Vaccine‐Immunized Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2022
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) remains a global public health threat. Hence, more effective and specific antivirals are urgently needed. Here, COVID‐19 hyperimmune globulin (COVID‐HIG), a passive immunotherapy, is prepared from the plasma of healthy

Hemodialysis membrane-related neutrophil dysfunctions and pentoxifylline - a pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Hemodialysis treatment is associated with activation of neutrophil granulocytes. Pentoxifylline has been shown to inhibit neutrophil activation in vitro and in vivo.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
