Two-Color Terawatt Laser System For High-Intensity Laser-Plasma Experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We report a two-color terawatt laser system for use in controlling laser-plasma instabilities. The system includes a commercial 45 TW Ti:Sapphire laser system at 800 nm, temporally synchronized with a 1 TW CPA Raman-Ti:Sapphire hybrid laser centered at ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Implications of vertical stability control on the SPARC tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
To achieve its performance goals, SPARC plans to operate in equilibrium configurations with a strong elongation of $\kappa_\mathrm{areal}\sim1.75$ , which in turn will destabilize the n  = 0 vertical instability. However, SPARC also features a relatively

Phase Mixing of Propagating Alfvén Waves in a Single-fluid Partially Ionized Solar Plasma

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The phase mixing of Alfvén waves is one of the most promising mechanisms for the heating of the solar atmosphere. The damping of waves in this case requires small transversal scales, relative to the magnetic field direction; this requirement is achieved ...

Early onset preeclampsia is characterized by altered placental lipid metabolism and a premature increase in circulating FABP4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-associated disorder that manifests as a sudden increase in maternal blood pressure accompanied by proteinuria. Because the placenta is a key organ in preeclampsia, we used proteomic and lipidomic analyses to compare placentae ...

Accelerator Based Fusion Reactor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A feasibility study of fusion reactors based on accelerators is carried out. We consider a novel scheme where a beam from the accelerator hits the target plasma on the resonance of the fusion reaction and establish characteristic criteria for a workable ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Benefit of Apabetalone on Plasma Proteins in Renal Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Introduction:Apabetalone, a small molecule inhibitor, targets epigenetic readers termed BET proteins that contribute to gene dysregulation in human disorders. Apabetalone has in vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory and antiatherosclerotic properties.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

An overview of 3D field optimization for control of transport and edge instabilities on KSTAR

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
An international team from several laboratories and universities has made key advances over the last few years in the control of plasma transport and edge instabilities with applied 3D fields in the KSTAR tokamak to optimize long pulse operation ...
