Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Edge radial electric field in positive and negative triangularity plasmas in the TCV tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
We present the first edge E _r measurements in negative triangularity (NT) plasmas in the Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV). The Doppler backscattering measurements of $v_\perp \approx E_r/B$ reveal a significant impact of triangularity on the E _r ...

Influence of the Active Screen on the Embrittlement of a Plasma-Nitrided Edge [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research
In plasma nitriding of cutting tools, edge embrittlement can result from both, deepest layer, and grain boundaries precipitation. Overheating and surface charge density concentration in Direct Current Plasma Nitrided (DCPN) can be reduced through an ...

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

Experimental characterization of the edge fluctuations during I-phase at ASDEX Upgrade

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The intermediate phase (I-phase) is a plasma regime that exists at the transition from the low-confinement mode (L-mode) to the fully developed high-confinement mode (H-mode), or vice versa.

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

The quasi-continuous exhaust regime in JET

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The quasi-continuous exhaust (QCE) regime is a regime that is naturally type-I ELM-free. It combines the high density at the plasma edge needed for power exhaust with the high normalised energy confinement typical for H-mode operation.

Tokamak Edge Plasma Turbulence Interaction with Magnetic X-Point in 3D Global Simulations

open access: yesFluids, 2019
Turbulence in the edge plasma of a tokamak is a key actor in the determination of the confinement properties. The divertor configuration seems to be beneficial for confinement, suggesting an effect on turbulence of the particular magnetic geometry ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Comparison of divertor seed impurity gases retention efficiency by SOLPS-ITER modeling

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
In the paper a SOLPS-ITER modeling of H-Mode scenarios with different seed impurity gases (N, Ne, Ar, Kr) is performed for ASDEX Upgrade geometry. These gases are compared from the point of view of their radiation efficiency and compression in the ...
