Electrolytic-plasma oxidation in borate electrolytes

Protection of Metals, 2006
Changes in the temperature and concentration of the aqueous tetraborate electrolyte, particularly, its transition from true to supersaturated solution range affect the voltage at the electrodes, the elemental and phase composition and surface structure of oxide layers formed at anodically polarized aluminum alloys under the effect of electric ...

Plasma electrolytic oxidation of hafnium

International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2017
Abstract This paper presents the results of the investigation of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of hafnium. Atoms ionized during the PEO micro-discharging were identified using optical emission spectroscopy. The spectral line shape analysis of the hydrogen Balmer line H β indicated the presence of two types of micro-discharges characterized by ...

Niobium treated by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation with calcium and phosphorus electrolytes

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2018
Niobium plates were electrochemically treated by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) with electrolytes containing phosphorous and/or calcium. Three different electrolyte and experimental parameters were used forming three different surfaces. Film morphology, thickness, and chemical composition were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and ...

Plasma electrolytic oxidation of titanium and improvement in osseointegration

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2013
AbstractReducing the osseointegration time for biomedical titanium implants in surgical patients is an important goal. However, a huge controversy exists over the effectiveness of osseointegration of the surface layer by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), which is a widely favored surface modification for titanium‐based implants.

Plasma electrolytic oxidation of zircaloy-4 in a mixed alkaline electrolyte

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2021
Abstract Characteristics of coating resulted from plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of zircaloy-4 in an electrolyte containing phosphate, silicate, and hydroxide were investigated. The mixed electrolyte is proposed to reduce power consumption. PEO was conducted in a DC mode at a current density of 30, 50, and 70 mA/cm2.

Porosity in plasma electrolytic oxide coatings

Acta Materialia, 2006
Abstract Plasma electrolytic oxide coatings are generally assumed to be almost fully dense. However, evidence is presented here for the presence of sub-micrometre, surface-connected porosity in such coatings, on aluminium alloys, at levels of the order of 20%.

Nanoparticle incorporation in plasma-electrolytic oxidation

Transactions of the IMF, 2016
One remaining problem of thicker PEO based topcoats on light metal substrates is the enhanced porosity with increasing layer thickness. While modern deposition techniques such as pulsed anodisation counteract this phenomenon, a simple current signal based approach cannot completely eliminate this problem.

Plasma electrolytic oxide coatings on silumin for oxidation CO

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
Some catalysts of CO oxidation on silumin alloy AK12M2, used for the manufacture of pistons for Russian cars were investigated. The catalysts were prepared by the method of plasma electrolytic oxidation of silumin in electrolytes of various compositions with further activation by the salts Ce, Cu, Co, Ni, Mn and Al. The catalytic tests were carried out

The effects of plasma electrolytically oxidized NiTi on in vitro endothelialization

Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, 2016
The role of biomaterials surface in controlling the interfacial biological events leading to implant integration is of key importance. In this study, the effects of NiTi surfaces treated by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) have been investigated.
