Characteristics of a plasma electrolytic nitrocarburising treatment for stainless steels
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2001In this work, we investigate the feasibility of a plasma electrolytic nitrocarburising (PEN/C) treatment applied to AISI 316 stainless steel using a modified aqueous solution of urea as the treatment electrolyte. The substrate samples were connected cathodically to a high-current DC power supply and biased with a negative voltage in the range 220-260 V.

Personal Computer Controlled Installation for Plasma Electrolytic Treatment Process Control
2005 11th International Scientific and Practical Conference of Students, Post-graduates and Young Scientists - Modern Technique and Technologies, 2005Plasma electrolytic treatment of metals is a new emerging technology that features high quality, cost effective and environmentally friendly surface engineering. The main difference between plasma electrolytic treatment and conventional electrochemical treatment are operation at high voltages in the range 100-500 V and application of low concentration ...

Microarc plasma treatment of titanium and aluminum surfaces in electrolytes
Thin Solid Films, 2006The advanced plasma process of microarc treatment in electrolytes was utilized to prepare oxide layers on aluminum and titanium substrates by anodic conversion. This paper reports results on morphology, structure, growth rates, hardness and water contact angle measurements of titanium and aluminum oxidized surfaces obtained by microarc discharge in ...

The study considers heat exchange in a three-phase system: electrolyte solution—vapour-gas envelope (VGE)—a titanium workpiece. The temperature of a workpiece, current intensity, heat fluxes from the envelope to the electrolyte and the workpiece were measured in an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride with addition of ammonia and glycerol. Addition of

Environmental Prospects of Localised Plasma-electrolyte Treatment of Materials
Ecology and Industry of RussiaQuantitative assessments of a number of potentially harmful factors inherent in localised plasma-electrolyte treatment (PET) were performed. The negative impact of the electrolytes used and the operation of the PET equipment on the environment and service personnel is shown to be negligible.

Surface Modification of AISI 4140 Steel Using Electrolytic Plasma Thermocyclic Treatment
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2010Surface modification of AISI 4140 steel has been carried out by using electrolytic plasma thermocyclic treatment (EPTT). Cyclic voltage between 320 and 250 for stipulated period of 1, 2, 3, 4 s and 2, 3, 4, 5 s, respectively, has been performed. At the same time, the effect of average voltage and duration on process has been studied.

An engineering solution was proposed for the regeneration of electrolytes used in plasma-electrolytic treatment by modernizing the electrolyzer chamber through the installation of a gas exhaust trap and directing the captured gases back into the electrolyte solution. The methods used include the study of the structural-phase state of the surface layers
