Two-component model of the interaction of an interstellar cloud with surrounding hot plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present a two-component gasdynamic model of an interstellar cloud embedded in a hot plasma. It is assumed that the cloud consists of atomic hydrogen gas, interstellar plasma is quasineutral. Hydrogen atoms and plasma protons interact through a charge exchange process. Magnetic felds and radiative processes are ignored in the model.

Self-consistent Simulations of Plasma-Neutral in a Partially Ionized Astrophysical Turbulent Plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A local turbulence model is developed to study energy cascades in the heliosheath and outer heliosphere (OH) based on self-consistent two-dimensional fluid simulations. The model describes a partially ionized magnetofluid OH that couples a neutral hydrogen fluid with a plasma primarily through charge-exchange interactions.

Dynamics of Alfvén waves in partially ionized astrophysical plasmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We develop a two dimensional, self-consistent, compressible fluid model to study evolution of Alfvenic modes in partially ionized astrophysical and space plasmas. The partially ionized plasma consists mainly of electrons, ions and significant neutral atoms.

An analytic model of plasma-neutral coupling in the heliosphere plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We have developed an analytic model to describe coupling of plasma and neutral fluids in the partially ionized heliosphere plasma medium. The sources employed in our analytic model are based on a $\kappa$-distribution as opposed to the Maxwellian distribution function. Our model uses the $\kappa$-distribution to analytically model the energetic neutral

Collisionless plasma expansion in the presence of a dipole magnetic field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The collisionless interaction of an expanding high-energy plasma cloud with a magnetized background plasma in the presence of a dipole magnetic field is examined in the framework of a 2D3V hybrid (kinetic ions and massless fluid electrons) model. The retardation of the plasma cloud and the dynamics of the perturbed electromagnetic fields and the ...

Plasma exchange in the intensive care unit: a narrative review

open access: yesIntensive Care Medicine, 2022
In this narrative review, we discuss the relevant issues of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in critically ill patients. For many conditions, the optimal indication, device type, frequency, duration, type of replacement fluid and criteria for stopping ...

Plasma Exchange in Patients With Severe Coronavirus Disease 2019: A Single-Center Experience

open access: yesCritical Care Explorations, 2021
IMPORTANCE:. Recent evidence suggests a multilevel inflammatory syndrome as a driving factor in some of the most severely ill coronavirus disease 2019 patients with overlapping features to other hyperinflammatory or autoimmune diseases. Therefore, plasma
