Nomenclature for renal replacement therapy and blood purification techniques in critically ill patients: practical applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This article reports the conclusions of the second part of a consensus expert conference on the nomenclature of renal replacement therapy (RRT) techniques currently utilized to manage acute kidney injury and other organ dysfunction syndromes in ...

Early therapeutic plasma exchange in septic shock: a prospective open-label nonrandomized pilot study focusing on safety, hemodynamics, vascular barrier function, and biologic markers

open access: yesCritical Care, 2018
BackgroundGiven the pathophysiological key role of the host response to an infection rather than the infection per se, an ideal therapeutic strategy would also target this response.

Energy Cascades in Astrophysical Plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A local turbulence model is developed to study energy cascades in the interstellar medium (ISM) based on self-consistent two-dimensional fluid simulations. The model describes a partially ionized magnetofluid interstellar medium (ISM) that couples a neutral hydrogen fluid with a plasma primarily through charge exchange interactions.

Caplacizumab Therapy without Plasma Exchange for Acquired Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2019
Managing Acquired TTP without Plasma Exchange A case of acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura is reported in a Jehovah’s Witness who had neurologic manifestations but would not accept plasma...

Color, Spin and Flavor Diffusion in Quark-Gluon Plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev.Lett. 72 (1994) 3013-3016, 1994
In weakly interacting quark-gluon plasmas diffusion of color is found to be much slower than the diffusion of spin and flavor because color is easily exchanged by the gluons in the very singular forward scattering processes. If the infrared divergence is cut off by a magnetic mass, $m_{mag}\sim \alpha_sT$, the color diffusion is $D_{color}\sim ...

Analysis of Diffusion of Ras2 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae Using Fluorescence Recovery after Photobleaching

open access: yes, 2010
Binding, lateral diffusion and exchange are fundamental dynamic processes involved in protein association with cellular membranes. In this study, we developed numerical simulations of lateral diffusion and exchange of fluorophores in membranes with ...

Therapeutic plasma exchange in acute liver failure

open access: yesJournal of clinical apheresis, 2019
Multi‐organ dysfunction in acute liver failure (ALF) has been attributed to a systemic inflammatory response directly triggered by the injured liver. High‐volume therapeutic plasma exchange (HV‐TPE) has been demonstrated in a large randomized controlled ...

Successful Use of Plasma Exchange in the Treatment of Corticosteroid-Refractory Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis Associated with Gastrointestinal Manifestations

open access: yesCase Reports in Immunology, 2016
We describe the case of a 33-year-old woman having corticosteroid-refractory eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) who presented with abdominal pain and responded dramatically to plasma exchange.

Ion Temperature Evolution in an Ultracold Neutral Plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study the long-time evolution of the ion temperature in an expanding ultracold neutral plasma using spatially resolved, laser-induced-fluorescence spectroscopy. Adiabatic cooling reduces the ion temperature by an order of magnitude during the plasma expansion, to temperatures as low as 0.2 K.
