Severe Uncompensated Metabolic Alkalosis due to Plasma Exchange in a Patient with Pulmonary-Renal Syndrome: A Clinician’s Challenge

open access: yesCase Reports in Critical Care, 2015
Metabolic alkalosis secondary to citrate toxicity from plasma exchange is very uncommon in patients with normal renal function. In patients with advanced renal disease this can be a fatal event.

Effective attraction between oscillating electrons in a plasmoid via acoustic waves exchange

open access: yes, 2011
We consider the effective interaction between electrons due to the exchange of virtual acoustic waves in a low temperature plasma. Electrons are supposed to participate in rapid radial oscillations forming a spherically symmetric plasma structure.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Plasma Exchange in the Management of Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome

open access: yesCase Reports in Critical Care, 2016
Objective. Report of a case of catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) with multiple organ involvement leading to a life-threatening condition despite early combination corticosteroid and heparin therapy.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Anomalous low temperature ambipolar diffusion and Einstein relation

open access: yes, 2009
Regular Einstein relation, connecting the coefficient of ambipolar diffusion and the Dember field with mobilities, is generalized for the case of interacting electron-hole plasma.

Clathrin Heavy Chain subunits coordinate endo- and exocytic traffic and affect stomatal movement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The current model for vesicular traffic to and from the plasma membrane is accepted but the molecular requirements for this coordination are not well defined.

Intercompartmental communication in senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Senescent cells experience structural changes in the plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, lysosomes, nucleus, and cytoskeleton. These alterations disrupt crosstalk among cellular compartments, impairing vesicular trafficking, contact sites, and molecular flow.

Replacing plasma membrane outer leaflet lipids with exogenous lipid without damaging membrane integrity.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
We recently introduced a MαCD-based method to efficiently replace virtually the entire population of plasma membrane outer leaflet phospholipids and sphingolipids of cultured mammalian cells with exogenous lipids (Li et al, (2016) Proc. Natl. Acad.

Band gap renormalization in photoexcited semiconductor quantum wire structures in the GW approximation

open access: yes, 1998
We investigate the dynamical self-energy corrections of the electron-hole plasma due to electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions at the band edges of a quasi-one dimensional (1D) photoexcited electron-hole plasma.
