Plasma Response to Strongly Sheared Flow

Physical Review Letters, 1996
Laboratory observations of reactively driven plasma waves in the ion-cyclotron frequency range associated with a localized, transverse dc electric field are reported. This wave excitation occurs even when the field-aligned current is negligible, a situation often reported in the space plasma environment.

Plasma Synthetic Jet for Flow Control

40th Fluid Dynamics Conference and Exhibit, 2010
The necessity of having an efficient actuator to control flow has driven ONERA to develop a pioneer actuator called Plasma Synthetic Jet (PSJ). This actuator was inspired by the John Hopkins University device. It produces a high exhaust velocity jet using electrical power.

Serial measurement of renal plasma flow

European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, 1985
Effective renal plasma flow was measured two or three times in 1 h in 12 healthy volunteers. Radiohippuran (ortho-iodohippurate) was injected intravenously, and blood samples were obtained 8, 13 and 18 min post-administration. The problem of interference in succeeding measurements by activity from preceding injections was overcome by the use of three ...

Steady vortices in plasmas and geophysical flows

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 1994
A number of two-dimensional fluid models in geophysical fluid dynamics and plasma physics are examined to find out whether they have steady and localized monopole vortex solutions. A simple and general method that consists of two steps is used. First the dispersion relation is calculated, to find all possible values of the phase velocity of the linear ...

Transonic Flows in Two-Fluid Plasmas

Space Science Reviews, 2006
Transonically rotating toroidal plasmas occur at all scales in the plasma universe and, recently, also in laboratory tokamak plasmas. This offers great opportunities for new insights of the effects of transonic transitions on the background equilibrium flows, and on the waves and instabilities excited. Transfer of knowledge and computational methods on
