Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Effect of DFPP on Ferroptosis in Peripheral Blood CD14+ Monocytes of Hyperlipidemic Patients Involving the ACSL4/LPCAT3/ALOX5 Pathway

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although statins are the cornerstone of lipid‐lowering therapy, their use may be limited in some patients by adverse effects. This study evaluated the possible impact of non‐drug treatment using double‐filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on CD14+

Drag on an ellipsoid particle in free-molecular plasma flow

open access: yes, 1997
Based on the analysis of molecular gas dynamics, the drag and moment acting on an ellipsoid particle of revolution X-2/a(2) + Y-2/a(2) + Z(2)/c(2) = 1, as an example of nonspherical particles, are studied under the condition of free-molecular plasma flow

Evaluate the argon plasma jet parameters by optical emission spectroscopy

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science, 2023
In this study, a method for experimentally evaluating the plasma parameters in the Argon plasma jet system with varying rates of Argon gas flow from 1 to 5 L/min operating at constant voltage and normal atmospheric pressure.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Experimental Investigations of Magnetohydrodynamic Plasma Jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This thesis primarily focuses on understanding the plasma behavior during the helicity injection stage of a pulsed spheromak experiment. Spheromak formation consists of a series of dynamic steps whereby highly localized plasma near the electrodes evolves

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Transparent Electrodes Composed of Organized Titania Nanotubes and Transition Metal Sulfides for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
Transition metal sulfides have been widely investigated as electrocatalysts for both the oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions. Here, we synthesized copper, nickel, cobalt, and iron sulfides using a facile successive ionic layer adsorption reaction ...

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

The statistical correlations of rate of change of TEC index (ROTI) on the standard scintillation indices over the Canadian Arctic

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
For decades, the Rate of Change of Total Electron Content Index (ROTI) has been employed to monitor and quantify ionospheric irregularities, serving as a potential substitute for standard scintillation indices.
