Unconventional plasma focus devices
IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2006The Plasma Focus (PF) characteristics have been investigated in the Two-Guns configuration (TWIN) with a 10-kJ class device. Electrodes with two different heads shapes, hollow (GYN) or hemispherical (PHAL), have been tested and the results show that the neutron yield is greater in the GYN configuration.

Plasma focus discharge on mercury
2008 IEEE 35th International Conference on Plasma Science, 2008On January 14, 2008 the NASA space probe Messenger came within 200-km of Mercury, photographing a plasma focus discharge penumbra etched into the surface. The pattern recorded is identical to that etched on steel plates in experimental discharges: 112-rays from a discharge channel terminating at and producing a thick torus, here 40 km wide.

A Plasma Focus Interrupting Switch
1984The feasibility of using a dense plasma focus (DPF) as a current interrupting device has been investigated. Specifically, a 34-kJ, Mather-type DPF was modified to accept a third electrode so that a discharge could be created between this electrode and the center electrode of the DPF by a 10-kJ inductive energy storage circuit.

The plasma focus and thermonuclear fusion
Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 1975Present-day notions concerning the effects involved in a plasma focus are reviewed, the efficiency of various energy transmission channels in the device is analyzed, and some ideas relating to the possible extrapolation to larger devices are indicated.

Numerical Studies of the Plasma Focus
The Physics of Fluids, 1971The dynamical formation and structure of the plasma focus has been studied with a two-dimensional numerical fluid model. The extremely high kinetic energy densities obtained in the numerical fluid experiment as the result of adiabatic compression and viscous heating agree well with experiment.
