Shadowgraph studies suggest that a target disk placed downstream of the anode of a plasma focus may become an auxiliary anode producing a second focusing event when the current sheet climbs over it after the first focus event. A model is put forth in which each event is assumed to comprise three phases: an axial phase, a radial phase, and a radial ...

The name Plasma Focus (PF) has been bestowed upon a development of the fast dynamic Z-pinch characterized by a new type of electrode configuration which lends itself to the production of a non-cylindrical implosion of the current sheath. It produces a short lived, rather dense plasma, whose properties are dominated by the occurrence of macroscopic and ...

Electron kinematics in a plasma focus
The Physics of Fluids, 1977The results of numerical integrations of the three-dimensional relativistic equations of motion of electrons subject to given electric and magnetic fields are presented. Fields due to two different models are studied: (i) a circular distribution of current filaments, and (ii) a uniform current distribution; both the collapse and the current reduction ...

Dense plasma in Z-pinches and the plasma focus
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1981Abstract Many of the earliest experiments in controlled thermonuclear fusion research were Z-pinches. However these pinches were found to be highly unstable to the m = 0, the m — 1 (kink), and the Rayleigh-Taylor instability. The addition of an axial magnetic field and the removal of end losses by proceeding to a toroidal geometry has

Ion kinematics in a plasma focus
The Physics of Fluids, 1973The results of numerical integrations of three-dimensional equations of motion of ions subject to given electric and magnetic fields are presented. The fields represent those which may exist in the pinch phase of the plasma focus, although here they depend only on the radial coordinate.

Computational simulation of plasma focus
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2001The movement and shaping of the plasma sheet in a plasma focus is modeled by means of finite elements. The sheet is represented by conical segments carrying mass, internal energy and momentum. The Lorentz force accelerates each element in its normal direction, which leads to the continuous reshaping of the sheet.

With the emergence of EUVL as the chosen technology for next-generation lithography (NGL) systems, significant effort has been spent in developing light sources consistent with the challenging requirements of the scanner manufacturers as well as meeting the aggressive demands of the end users for high-volume manufacturing (HVM).

Ion acceleration in a plasma focus
The Physics of Fluids, 1974The electric and magnetic fields associated with anomalous diffusion to the axis of a linear plasma discharge are used to compute representative ion trajectories. Substantial axial acceleration of the ions is demonstrated.

Unconventional plasma focus devices
IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2006The Plasma Focus (PF) characteristics have been investigated in the Two-Guns configuration (TWIN) with a 10-kJ class device. Electrodes with two different heads shapes, hollow (GYN) or hemispherical (PHAL), have been tested and the results show that the neutron yield is greater in the GYN configuration.

Plasma focus discharge on mercury
2008 IEEE 35th International Conference on Plasma Science, 2008On January 14, 2008 the NASA space probe Messenger came within 200-km of Mercury, photographing a plasma focus discharge penumbra etched into the surface. The pattern recorded is identical to that etched on steel plates in experimental discharges: 112-rays from a discharge channel terminating at and producing a thick torus, here 40 km wide.
