Map of suprathermal onto nonextensive parameters describing Langmuir waves

open access: yesFundamental Plasma Physics, 2023
We propose a polytropic-like index that depends on the concentration and number of degrees of freedom of a gas of charged particles following a nonextensive distribution.

Nonlinear electromagnetic response of a uniform electron gas

open access: yes, 2014
The linear electromagnetic response of a uniform electron gas to a longitudinal electric field is determined, within the self-consistent-field theory, by the linear polarizability and the Lindhard dielectric function.

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Relativistic magnetohydrodynamics in one dimension

open access: yes, 2011
We derive a number of solution for one-dimensional dynamics of relativistic magnetized plasma that can be used as benchmark estimates in relativistic hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic numerical codes. First, we analyze the properties of simple waves

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Observation of poloidal magnetic flux emission from the post-pinch phase of a plasma focus and its significance for laboratory simulation of astrophysical jets

open access: yesFundamental Plasma Physics, 2023
Astrophysical jets are plasma flows, which are observed to substantially maintain their transverse size while travelling distances orders-of-magnitude larger.

Pulsed plasma accelerator operates repetitively without complex controls [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
Self-repeating pulsed plasma accelerator operates with a wide variety of gases over a large range of pressures without complex control equipment. The accelerator combines a circular channel with a tangential channel at the entrance way of a high-velocity

Isotope Labelling for Reaction Mechanism Analysis in DBD Plasma Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasmas and plasma catalysis are becoming an alternative procedure to activate various gas phase reactions. A low-temperature and normal operating pressure are the main advantages of these processes, but a limited ...

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Reactive Atom Plasma (RAP) figuring machine for meter class optical surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A new surface figuring machine called Helios 1200 is presented in this paper. It is designed for the figuring of meter sized optical surfaces with form accuracy correction capability better than 20 nm rms within a reduced number of iterations.
