Laser-heated emissive plasma probe

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2008
Emissive probes are standard tools in laboratory plasmas for the direct determination of the plasma potential. Usually they consist of a loop of refractory wire heated by an electric current until sufficient electron emission. Recently emissive probes were used also for measuring the radial fluctuation-induced particle flux and other essential ...

Plasma Heating in JET

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1986
Heating the JET plasma well above temperatures reached in the ohmic phase is the aim of the two additional heating systems planned for JET: ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRF) and neutral beam injection (NBI). Operations with the latter started in February 1986, initially with hydrogen injection, up to a power level of 7 MW.

Plasma Heating By Forced Magnetic Reconnection

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1998
A model of forced magnetic reconnection in a force-free magnetic field is considered for the magnetic energy release during current sheet reconnection. The authors find that the magnetic energy release becomes very large for the field near the marginal tearing stability.

Plasma heat pump and heat engine

Physics of Plasmas, 2010
A model system where cold charged particles are locally confined in a volume VP within a warm plasma of volume V (VP⪡V) is studied. Charged particles mutually repel via a shielded repulsion which is like an effective pressure, i.e., electrostatic pressure PE. The law of thermodynamics involving PE and an equation of state for PE are obtained.
