The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

Subpar reporting of pre‐analytical variables in RNA‐focused blood plasma studies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical variables strongly influence the analysis of extracellular RNA (cell‐free RNA; exRNA) derived from blood plasma. Their reporting is essential to allow interpretation and replication of results. By evaluating 200 exRNA studies, we pinpoint a lack of reporting pre‐analytical variables associated with blood collection, plasma preparation ...

Adiabatic cooling of trapped nonneutral plasmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Nonneutral plasmas can be trapped for long times by means of combined electric and magnetic fields. Adiabatic cooling is achieved by slowly decreasing the trapping frequency and letting the plasma occupy a larger volume. We develop a fully kinetic time-dependent theory of adiabatic cooling for plasmas trapped in a one-dimensional well. This approach is

Magnetothermodynamics In SSX: Measuring The Equations Of State Of A Compressible Magnetized Plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Magnetothermodynamics is the study of compression and expansion of magnetized plasma with an eye toward identifying equations of state (EOSs) for magneto-inertial fusion experiments.

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Leg oedema—A diagnostic approach

open access: yesCurrent Medicine Research and Practice, 2011
Oedema results from excess accumulation of interstitial fluid and produces palpable swelling. Its major causes include venous obstruction, increased capillary permeability, and increased plasma volume secondary to sodium and water retention.

Transparent low-density stellar plasma extending over very large volumes with large masses and Dark Haloes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The free electron model with Boltzmann statistics for spherical low-density plasmas (Scientific Reports 9. 20384, 2019) is developed further by numerical calculations with asymptotic relations obtaining the density of electrons, mass densities and the potentials of such plasmas. Solutions are developed as function of a pure number x proportional to the

Acute effects of ingesting glucose solutions on blood and plasma volume.

open access: yesBritish Journal of Nutrition, 2009
The change in blood and plasma volume following ingestion of glucose solutions of varying concentrations was estimated in twelve healthy male volunteers.
