Applicability of Bispectral Analysis to Causality Determination within and between Ensembles of Unstable Plasma Waves

open access: yesAtoms
Turbulence implies nonlinear wave–wave coupling, and determining cause and effect of either is important to understand mixing responsible for enhanced number, momentum, or energy (NME) transport. To explain the identification of parent and daughter modes

Parallel Electrostatic Waves Associated With Turbulent Plasma Mixing in the Kelvin‐Helmholtz Instability

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
The Kelvin‐Helmholtz Instability (KHI) is thought to be an important driver of mass and momentum transfer from the solar wind to the Earth's magnetosphere.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Tracing solar wind plasma entry into the magnetosphere using ion-to-electron temperature ratio [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
When the solar wind Mach number is low, typically such as in magnetic clouds, the physics of the bow shock leads to a downstream ion-to-electron temperature ratio that can be notably lower than usual.

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.

Runaway electrons during subnanosecond breakdowns in high-pressure gases

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2016
The parameters of runaway electrons produced in nanosecond high-voltage discharges in different gases (air, nitrogen, sulphur hexafluoride, krypton, argon, methane, neon, hydrogen, helium) at atmospheric and higher pressure were studied.

Self-modulation of surface waves at a plasma-metal interface

open access: yes, 1998
The ponderomotive force effects on surface waves at a plasma-metal interface are studied. The waves propagate across an external magnetic field parallel to the interface.

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Plasma Wave and Particle Dynamics During Interchange Events in the Jovian Magnetosphere Using Juno Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Interchange instability is known to drive fast radial transport of particles in Jupiter's inner magnetosphere. Magnetic flux tubes associated with the interchange instability often coincide with changes in particle distributions and plasma waves, but ...

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...
