Plasmon-Plasmon Interactions

Physical Review Letters, 1978
It is shown that cancellations in a consistent calculation strongly reduce the attractive interaction of plasmons in an electron gas and eliminate the possibility of a bound state of two plasmons in a metal. In degenerate semiconductors with a large static dielectric constant, a residual binding of two plasmons many remain.

Color plasmons and trains of plasmons

Applied Optics, 2010
We show that a broadband surface plasmon can be excited in a thin metal film. A train of two plasmons can be excited at conditions near the condition of broadband surface plasmon excitation. Also, a method for independent multichannel checks of biochips by wavelength addressing is proposed.

The Promise of PLASMONICS [PDF]

open access: possibleScientific American sp, 2007
Light is a wonderful medium for carrying information. Optical fibers now span the globe, guiding light signals that convey voluminous streams of voice communications and vast amounts of data. This gargantuan capacity has led some researchers to prophesy that photonic devices--which channel and manipulate visible light and other ...

Surface Plasmon Spectroscopy of Nanosized Metal Particles

, 1996
The use of optical measurements to monitor electrochemical changes on the surface of nanosized metal particles is discussed within the Drude model. The absorption spectrum of a metal sol in water is shown to be strongly affected by cathodic or anodic ...

Spectral Properties and Relaxation Dynamics of Surface Plasmon Electronic Oscillations in Gold and Silver Nanodots and Nanorods

, 1999
The field of nanoparticle research has drawn much attention in the past decade as a result of the search for new materials. Size confinement results in new electronic and optical properties, possibly suitable for many electronic and optoelectronic ...

A Poincaré's approach for plasmonics: the plasmon localization

Journal of Microscopy, 2008
SummaryA Poincaré's approach is employed to characterize the excitation of a plasmon, which in essence corresponds to a zero of a complex S‐matrix. Throughout this work we study the plasmonic behaviour of gold, as this metal not only is frequently used in experimental arrays, but also requires an accurate dispersion model to properly excite plasmons ...

Why gold nanoparticles are more precious than pretty gold: noble metal surface plasmon resonance and its enhancement of the radiative and nonradiative properties of nanocrystals of different shapes.

Chemical Society Reviews, 2006
This tutorial review presents an introduction to the field of noble metal nanoparticles and their current applications. The origin of the surface plasmon resonance and synthesis procedures are described.

Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance in Semiconductor Nanocrystals.

Chemical Reviews, 2018
Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) that results in resonant absorption, scattering, and near field enhancement around the NC can be tuned across a wide optical spectral range from visible to far-infrared by ...
