Programmable Paracrine‐Mimetic Microneedle System for Temporal Regulation of Cardiac Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Temporal signaling is encoded into a programmable paracrine‐mimetic microneedle patch via tris(2,2'‐bipyridyl)dichlororuthenium(II) hexahydrate/sodium persulfate‐tuned hydrogel microparticles that deliver TGF‐β, IGF‐1, and VEGF over phase‐matched 7‐, 14‐, and 28‐day windows.

Assessing hitchhikers of marine plastic debris

open access: yes, 2021
Plastic debris in the marine environment continues to increase, which acts as a vector for transportation of hitchhikers. The marine plastic debris(MPD) are mainly litter that are discarded at sea or reaching the sea through waterways by currents and ...

Toward Material‐Specific Peptides From in Silico Guided Peptide Engineering to Target PET in the Presence of PS

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a computational–experimental strategy to engineer material‐binding peptides toward polymer specificity. Molecular dynamics simulations identified residues driving polystyrene binding, enabling targeted substitutions that greatly reduced polystyrene affinity while preserving PET binding.

Densities of neuston often not elevated within plastic hotspots territory inside the North Pacific Garbage Patch

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Ecology
The North Pacific Garbage Patch, located in the eastern part of the North Pacific subtropical gyre, contains vast amounts of floating plastic debris. Research over the past decades has mainly focused on assessing the extent of plastic pollution in this ...

Microplastic Distribution Characteristics and Sources on Beaches That Serve as the Largest Nesting Ground for Green Turtles in China

open access: yesToxics
The threat of microplastics to marine animals and habitats is increasing, which may affect sea turtle nesting grounds. The Qilianyu Islands are the largest remaining green turtle (Chelonia mydas) nesting grounds in China.

Endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1 Regulation of SYNE1 Mediates Structural and Functional Recovery after Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1 deletion promotes long‐term recovery after traumatic brain injury by restoring SYNE1 expression. Enhanced endothelial SYNE1 preserves vascular integrity, protects white and gray matter, and improves neurological function. The endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1–SYNE1 axis emerges as a key regulator of neurovascular repair and a potential ...

Debris Mitigation Methods for Bridge Piers, Final Repory, June 2012 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Debris accumulation on bridge piers is an on-going national problem that can obstruct the waterway openings at bridges and result in significant erosion of stream banks and scour at abutments and piers.

RNA Promotes Synapsin Condensates That Organize Synaptic Vesicles in Live Neurons and Enable Localized Translation in Reconstituted System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Condensates at synapses organize synaptic vesicles (SVs) and are crucial for efficient neurotransmitter release, yet how RNA contributes to this mesoscale architecture remains poorly understood. Here we uncover that RNA modulates synapsin–driven condensates.

Tidal phase-driven variability in marine debris magnitudes from the estuary of the Banjir Kanal Timur river, Semarang

open access: yesGreen Technologies and Sustainability
This study investigated the impact of tidal dynamics and river discharge on marine debris deposition from the Banjir Kanal Timur estuary, Semarang, into the Java Sea, while also estimating mismanaged plastic waste (MPW) volumes and comparing them with ...

Corporate social responsibility in marine plastic debris governance

open access: yes, 2018
This paper explores the governance characteristics of marine plastic debris, some of the factors underpinning its severity, and examines the possibility of harnessing corporate social responsibility (CSR) to manage plastic use within the contextual ...
