The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Plastic ingestion and trace element contamination of Manx shearwaters Puffinus puffinus on the Faroe Islands [PDF]
Procellariiform seabirds can accumulate high levels of plastic in their gastrointestinal tracts, which can cause physical damage and potentially provides a contamination route for trace elements.

Occurrence of macro- and microplastics in sediment and mudskippers from Ashish Al-Doha, Kuwait
Kuwait's marine environment has long been known to be contaminated by various pollutants, yet reports of plastic litter are limited. This study quantified macro- and microplastics in the littoral sediment and gastrointestinal tracts of mudskippers ...

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Si‐doped AlCoCrFeNi high‐entropy alloys are synthesized by mechanical alloying to reveal the effect of Si content and milling time on phase evolution, microstructural refinement, and tribological behavior. A transition from FCC to BCC structure, significant grain refinement, and enhanced hardness and wear resistance are achieved, with the 4 at% Si ...

The abundance, distribution and accumulation of plastic debris in Table Bay, Cape Town, South Africa
Stranded debris and beach litter were examined at two sites in Table Bay, South Africa, repeating a survey made at the same two beaches in 1994. One beach (Milnerton) is a popular recreational beach 12 km from the city centre, whereas the other (Koeberg)
