To investigate the possibility of quantitative monitoring of the fracture process zone (FPZ) at the shotcrete‐rock interface, the acoustic emission (AE) and digital image correlation (DIC) are used to monitor the three‐point bending test of shotcrete‐rock specimens.

The effect of hydrogen on the fracture toughness of friction‐stir welded API 5L X70 pipeline steels
Abstract The hydrogen embrittlement (HE) leads to severe steel degradation of mechanical properties. The hydrogen atoms diffuse into the steel and get positioned into reversible and irreversible trap sites. The pipe to transport oil and gas needs to be welded to construct long‐distance pipeline projects; thus, friction‐stir welding (FSW) has proven an ...

Fatigue Crack Growth from Notches: A Numerical Analysis
A numerical approach based on plastic crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) was followed to study fatigue crack growth (FCG) from notches. The identification of fundamental mechanisms was made considering notched and unnotched models, with and without ...

Characterisation of the crack tip plastic zone in fatigue via synchrotron X‐ray diffraction
Abstract This paper describes a new methodology for characterising the plastic zone ahead of a fatigue crack. This methodology is applied to a set of experimental data obtained by synchrotron X‐ray diffraction on a bainitic steel compact tension specimen.

Estimation of the Fracture Probability Parameters for Specimens Made by JIS SM490A Steel
This work established the fracture probability equation for JIS SM490A steel using the computational model supported by the local approach and the standard Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) fracture toughness experiments.

Abstract A growing fatigue crack gives rise to a plastically deformed wake of material that envelops the crack. In this work, the plastic wake extent during fatigue crack growth is experimentally quantified by analyzing the crack tip displacement fields measured with digital image correlation.

Purity Effect of High‐Strength Steel on Failure Behavior of Automobile Front Axle
As unpredictable fracture of the front axle will lead to serious safety accidents, its failure behavior study is essential. This paper analyzes typical cracks on I‐shaped and leaf springs of the front axle made by Steel A and Steel B. Steel B has a lower content of S, N, Cu, and Sn than Steel A.

The post-yield fracture of a ductile polymer film: Notch quality, essential work of fracture, crack tip opening displacement, and J-integral [PDF]
Double edge notched tension (DENT) specimens of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film were tested in an universal testing machine, measuring the displacements and the ligament lengths with a digital image correlation (DIC) system.
