Crack-Tip Opening Displacement of Girth Welds in a Lean X70 Pipeline Steel. [PDF]
Crack-tip opening displacement (CTOD) tests were conducted on girth welds of two API 5L X70 pipeline steels (pipe A and pipe B) to investigate the influence of base metal composition on the fracture toughness of the joint. CTOD measurements across the weld showed that the weld fusion zone had the lowest CTOD values for both pipes, with pipe B having a ...

Crack tip strain evolution and crack closure during overload of a growing fatigue crack [PDF]
It is generally accepted that fatigue crack growth is retarded after an overload, which has been explained either by plasticity-induced crack closure or near-tip residual stress.

A numerical study of non-linear crack tip parameters [PDF]
Crack closure concept has been widely used to explain different issues of fatigue crack propagation. However, different authors have questioned the relevance of crack closure and have proposed alternative concepts.

Elastic-plastic analysis of crack on bimaterial interface [PDF]
In this paper are presented solutions for the stress and displacement fields for a crack that lies along the interface of an elastic and elastic - plastic material and for a crack between two different elastic - plastic materials.

Crack Tip Opening Displacement and Angle for a Growing Crack in Carbon Steel [PDF]
The crack tip opening displacements and angles (CTOD/CTOA) are calculated with finite element method based on the test data of a set of constraint-dependent J-R curves for A285 carbon steel. The values of the CTOD/CTOA are initially high at initiation, but rapidly decrease to a nearly constant value.
