Computing the stress intensity factor range for fatigue crack growth testing at 20 kHz

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 6, Issue 6, June 2024.
A comparative study on the computation of the SIF at 20 kHz load frequency. Results from different simulation procedures are presented and discussed. Abstract Inertia and damping influence the values of the stress intensity factors (SIFs) at high‐frequency loading and they must be included in computations.

The fatigue crack growth behavior of hydrogenated 9Cr‐1Mo steel: An experimental and numerical study

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 47, Issue 5, Page 1677-1695, May 2024.
Abstract This research investigates the fatigue crack evolution in P91 steel through experiments and extended finite element method (XFEM) simulation for as‐received and hydrogenated conditions. Hydrogen pre‐charging is performed using a constant current electrochemical method in 1 M sulfuric acid solution.

Plastic collapse loads Pc and CTODs of a cracked Circular Hollow Section (CHS) T-joint

open access: yes, 2012
The FailureAssessment Diagram (FAD) is an accepted approach in assessing the structural safety and integrity of any cracked tubular joint. In order to extend its application to a more complex geometry of any cracked Circular Hollow Section (CHS) tubular T-joint, there are three major challenges needed to be overcome; firstly there is a need to validate

Calibrating an adaptive cohesive zone model to simulate ductile crack propagation in structural steel under cyclic loading

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 47, Issue 2, Page 319-343, February 2024.
Abstract A procedure is outlined for calibrating a finite element model to simulate ductile cracking that employs a continuum damage criterion for ductile fracture initiation, termed the Stress Weighted Ductile Fracture Model, with an Adaptive Cohesive Zone method to simulate crack propagation.
