Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Analysis of Elasto-plastic Contact and Accuracy Loss of Planetary Roller Screw Pair Considering Radial Load

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2022
The elasto-plastic deformation of planetary roller screw pair under short-term high overload will reduce the transmission accuracy and increase the friction torque, which will affect the service life.

Treatment increases stress-corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Overaging during heat treatment of the aluminum alloys immediately followed by moderate plastic deformation, preferably by shock loading achieves near optimum values of both yield strength and resistance to stress corrosion.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Continuum mesoscale theory inspired by plasticity

open access: yes, 2002
We present a simple mesoscale field theory inspired by rate-independent plasticity that reflects the symmetry of the deformation process. We parameterize the plastic deformation by a scalar field which evolves with loading.

Molecular dynamics simulations of an anomalous response of diamond to shock compression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We performed molecular dynamics simulations of shock wave propagation in diamond in the [110] crystallographic direction and observed an anomalous response of the material.

Self-affine surface morphology of plastically deformed metals

open access: yes, 2004
We analyze the surface morphology of metals after plastic deformation over a range of scales from 10 nm to 2 mm, using a combination of atomic force microscopy and scanning white-light interferometry.

Microstructure Evolution of Grade X100 Pipeline under Plastic Deformation Condition

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2010
The effects of plastic deformation on the microstructure evolution of grade X100 pipeline were investigated by SEM, TEM and EBSD tests. The result shows that quasipolygon ferrite deforms firstly under plastic strain initial stage, then both acicular ...

Deformation Behavior of Bulk Metallic Glasses and High Entropy Alloys under Complex Stress Fields: A Review

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
The plastic deformation of bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) depends significantly on applied stress states, and more importantly, in practical applications of BMGs as structural materials, they always deform under complex stress fields.
