Thermodynamics of Plastic Deformation [PDF]

open access: possible, 1987
The paper gives an outline of a thermodynamic theory of metal plasticity reduced to its simplest terms. The theory is based on classical thermostatics as it applies to elastic deformations and argues that a system which undergoes plastic deformation traverses a densely spaced, alternating sequence of stable and unstable unconstrained equilibrium states.

Elastic plastic deformation

Applied Mathematics & Optimization, 1983
The equilibrium configuration of an elastic perfectly plastic body may be described by its stress or its strain. By use of a first variation formula, a description of the strain tensor, not necessarily unique, is obtained from the stress, which is unique.

The physics of plastic deformation

International Journal of Plasticity, 1987
Abstract A simplified physical picture is extracted from the many complicated processes occuring during plastic deformation. It is based upon a set of continuously distributed straight edge dislocations, the carriers of plastic deformation, moving along their slip plane, interacting with each other and the lattice, multiplying and annihilating.

Joining by plastic deformation

CIRP Annals, 2013
Abstract As the scale and complexity of products such as aircraft and cars increase, demand for new functional processes to join mechanical parts grows. The use of plastic deformation for joining parts potentially offers improved accuracy, reliability and environmental safety as well as creating opportunities to design new products through joining ...

The plastic deformation of TiAl

Metallurgical transactions, 1974
The deformation substructure of TiAl (Llo type ordered lattice) tested in compression, and the factors determining it were investigated. Two types of dislocations take part in the plas-tic deformation, namely a/2 [110] and a/2 [Oil]. The latter type will disorder the Llo super-lattice and therefore would be expected to move in pairs as ...

Neck Deformities in Plastic Surgery

Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North America, 2019
This article provides facial plastic surgeons with the insight to avoid and address common pitfalls in neck procedures. Many aesthetic issues are created from overtreatment or undertreatment of components of the neck. Using the platysma muscle as the divide, ease of access to superficial anatomy leads to overtreatment problems, whereas difficulty of ...

Plastic Deformation of Nanomaterials

2009
This chapter discusses the much more complex mechanical behaviors associated with inelastic deformations. Although the grain size, volume fraction and composite approaches discussed in the last chapter are still relevant, the interactions between the size scales and the deformation mechanisms involved in plasticity do not always allow the simple use of

Joining by Plastic Deformation

Key Engineering Materials, 2018
This paper draws from the existing processes and applications of joining by plastic deformation to a comprehensive overview of a new set of processes that have been recently developed by the authors. The presentation includes solutions for connecting tubes, sheets and tubes to sheets and provides information on the tooling systems, operating variables,
