The plastic limit of clays [PDF]

open access: yesGéotechnique, 2013
The plastic limit of soils was first described by Atterberg in 1911. The thread-rolling test was standardised at the US Public Roads Bureau in the 1920s and 1930s, and has subsequently become one of the standard tests of soil mechanics. This paper reviews the original definitions of plastic limit as proposed by Atterberg, and proposes that the brittle ...

Linear Matching Method for Design Limits in Plasticity [PDF]

open access: yesComputers, Materials & Continua, 2010
In this paper a state-of-the-art numerical method is discussed for the evaluation of the shakedown and ratchet limits for an elastic-perfectly plastic body subjected to cyclic thermal and mechanical load history. The limit load or collapse load, i.e. the load carrying capacity, is also determined as a special case of shakedown analysis.

Discussion: Remoulded shear strength at plastic and semi-solid states [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The undrained shear strength of remoulded soils is of great concern in geotechnical engineering applications. This study aims to develop a reliable approach for determining the undrained shear strength of remoulded fine-grained soils, through the use of ...

Resíduos vegetais na superfície e carbono orgânico do solo e suas relações com a densidade máxima obtida no ensaio proctor Mulch and soil organic carbon content and their relationship with the maximum soil density obtained in the proctor test

An investigation into the cause of road failure along Sagamu-Papalanto highway southwestern Nigeria

open access: yesGeoenvironmental Disasters, 2021
Investigation into the cause of road failure has been carried out along a 60 km long Sagamu –Papalanto highway southwestern Nigeria. Geochemical, mineralogical, geotechnical and geophysical analyses were conducted to evaluate the cause of failure along ...

Technical Limits in Circularity for Plastic Packages [PDF]

open access: yesSustainability, 2020
The current Dutch recycling value chain for plastic packaging waste (PPW) has not reached its full circularity potential, as is apparent from two Circular Performance Indicators (CPIs): net packaging recycling rate and average polymer purity of the recycled plastics.

Ellipticity loss analysis for tangent moduli deduced from a large strain elastic–plastic self-consistent model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In order to investigate the impact of microstructures and deformation mechanisms on the ductility of materials, the criterion first proposed by Rice is applied to elastic–plastic tangent moduli derived from a large strain micromechanical model combined ...

A Correlation between Compaction Characteristics and Soil Index Properties for Fine-grained Soils

open access: yesPolytechnic Journal, 2019
This paper addresses the correlation between the liquid and/or plastic limits with the compaction characteristics, maximum dry density, and optimum moisture content (OMC), for fine-grained soils.
