Fabrication of nonlinear plastic optical fiber (POF) and application

open access: closedSPIE Proceedings, 2007
We have developed a fabrication technique for plastic optical fiber (POF) using nonlinear organic materials. The fabrication technique is the direct core solution injection into the hole of cladding preform formed by polymerization of cladding solution. The cladding solution was made of MMA, BBP, and BPO.

Material dispersion interplay with spectral filtering on plastic optical fiber (POF) links

open access: closedMicrowave and Optical Technology Letters, 2009
AbstractThis article reports on the material dispersion interplay with spectral filtering that shifts the bandwidth of Poly‐Methyl‐Metacrylate plastic optical fiber links. Calculations were carried out on fiber lengths up to 500 m and 100 m in length for <600 and 650 nm visible wavelength channels, respectively.

Immunobiosensor for fast detection of bacteria in water using plastic optical fiber (POF) bended

open access: closedSPIE Proceedings, 2015
This paper presents an immunobiosensor of fast response time to detection of bacteria, made by Plastic Optical Fiber. Probes were tested in U-shaped and Meander-shaped to investigate the best sensitivity, accuracy and repeatability. During calibration was used for sucrose solutions refractive index (RI) from 1.33 to 1.39. This is equivalent to IR range

Towards Plastic Optical Fiber Magnetic Field Sensors exploiting Magnetic Fluids and Multimode SPR-POF platforms

open access: closed2020 IEEE Sensors Applications Symposium (SAS), 2020
We have studied how the optical property of a multimode plastic optical fiber (POF) can be used to monitor a magnetic field, exploiting a Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) POF sensor. To realize the sensor system, we have deposited a magnetic fluid on the cladding of a multimode POF connected in input to an SPR D-shaped POF sensor platform.

Metal-based 1X2 plastic optical fiber (POF) splitter for video over POF system application

open access: closedSPIE Proceedings, 2009
A 1X2 POF splitter based on a Y-branch metal hollow POF coupler design has been developed. The device is composed of three sections: an input POF waveguide, an intermediate hollow waveguide taper and output POF waveguides. Simulation based on non-sequential ray tracings have been performed on the POF splitter.

Plastic optical fiber (POF) technology for transportation systems

open access: closedSPIE Proceedings, 2013
Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) technology is utilized for wide variety of applications for its easiness of handling and robustness against environmental variation. Thanks to its large core diameter (typically 1mm) and large numerical aperture (typically 0.5) which provides wider acceptance angle, dimensional tolerance of POF can be extremely large.

Nitrite detection using plastic optical fiber (POF); an early stage investigation towards the development of oral cancer sensor using POF

open access: closedOptik, 2015
Abstract Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) has a higher chance of survival rate if being detected at an early stage. Overconsumption of nitrite in human body may result in OSCC formation. Nitrite and nitrate is a part of reactive nitrogen species (RNS) in saliva and is found to have higher percentage in OSCC patients’ saliva, thus chosen to be ...

Detection of lard adulteration in olive oil by using tapered Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) spectroscopy

open access: closedThird International Seminar on Photonics, Optics, and Its Applications (ISPhOA 2018), 2019
Olive oil is one of the oil product that is most adulterated by cheap substance such as grease, tallow, and lard. In the other hand, tapered POF is widely used for many sensing applications, particularly for chemical and biosensor. In this paper, the spectroscopy-based tapered POF for detecting lard adulteration in olive oil was investigated ...

Study of hologram transmission by a high core-number plastic optical fiber (POF) image guide in phase-shifting digital holography

open access: closedProceedings of the 2013 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration, 2013
A high core-number plastic optical fiber (POF) image guide is applied to hologram transmission in phase-shifting digital holography. To evaluate the quality of reconstructed images, the modulation transfer function (MTF) of the reconstructed images is investigated using a USAF test target as an object.

Gigabits in the home with plugless plastic optical fiber (POF) interconnects

open access: closed2008 2nd Electronics Systemintegration Technology Conference, 2008
We have developed plugless optical transceivers for low cost optical networking with plastic optical fiber (POF). The transmission speed is 125 Mb/s for Ethernet applications and 1.25 Gb/s for Gigabit Ethernet and other high speed applications. The high speed modules for Gigabit transmission are based on a red VCSEL light source for the transmitter ...
