Gd-loaded plastic scintillator

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1973
Abstract A commercially available plastic scintillator has been loaded with sufficient Gd to permit detection of 1 MeV neutrons with greater than 90% efficiency.

Preparation of Large Plastic Scintillators

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1957
A process is described for the manufacture of disks of plastic scintillators weighing over 100 kg and composed of polystyrene (∼99%), p-terphenyl (∼1%), and POPOP (∼0.03%). The design and performance of two large plastic scintillation detectors for cosmic rays are discussed.

Time response of plastic scintillators

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1974
Abstract Time-response characteristics of eight commercial plastic scintillators have been studied. Samples were excited by 50 ps electron or bremsstrahlung pulses. Sampling techniques were used to record the signal from a fast vacuum photodiode. Effects of surface preparation on time response were studied.

Mechanoluminescence of plastic scintillation counters

Journal of Luminescence, 2000
Luminescence has been observed from the mechanical deformation of plastic scintillation materials. The light was recorded by means of a photomultiplier, and observed on a monitor by means of an intensified CCD camera. There is evidence for piezoluminescence as well as triboluminescence.

Development of plastic scintillation fiber

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1987
Abstract We developed a plastic scintillation fiber (PSF) with a light-attenuation length as long as 2.8 m which was applied for a calorimeter. The performance of a calorimeter made of PSF and lead with a new method of fabrication is presented.

Characteristics of plastic scintillator granules

Journal of Applied Spectroscopy, 1967
Methods are described for measuring the absorption coefficient of the material, the absorption coefficient of a layer of granules, and the scintillation performance. The theory of light diffusion in a scattering medium is used and is compared with experiment.

High energy resolution plastic scintillator

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
In this paper we present results on a novel tin-loaded plastic scintillator. We will show that this particular plastic scintillator has a light output similar to that of BGO, a fast scintillation decay (< 10 ns), exhibits good neutron/gamma PSD with a Figure-of-Merit of 1.3 at 2.5 MeVee cut-off energy, and excellent energy resolution of about 12% (FWHM)
