Evaluating precision sprayers for targeted weed management in corn and soybean

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 8, Issue 1, March 2025.
Abstract A targeted application of herbicides in commercial crop fields is desirable for reducing chemical inputs and promoting environmental sustainability. Precision sprayers, equipped with cameras and sensors, detect weeds in real‐time and apply herbicides only where needed.

Fall-applied Rowcovers Enhance Yield in Plasticulture Strawberries [PDF]

open access: yesHortTechnology, 2001
The environmental conditions necessary for floral initiation and development in North Carolina can be arrested by the onset of an early drop in temperatures in the fall soon after planting. Floating rowcovers were placed on plots of three cultivars of strawberry ( Fragaria ×

Plastic residues and microplastics in agroecosystems: How Egyptian farmers perceive the risks?

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
The widespread presence of microplastic contamination is now recognized as an evolving issue with detrimental effects on agroecosystems. In response, governments and environmental organizations have emphasized the severity of plastic residues and ...

Effects of polyester microplastics and naproxen on lettuce growth and development and soil abiotic factors

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 7, Issue 4, December 2024.
Abstract Microplastics (MPs), formed from the physical breakdown of larger plastics, have been found across a variety of ecosystems. Much research has been done on the effects of MPs in aquatic ecosystems, but fewer studies have explored their effects in terrestrial environments, particularly in agroecosystems where modern practices contribute strongly

Purple nutsedge management in tomato plasticulture: A study on the effectiveness of preemergence herbicide S‐metolachlor and its co‐application with fertilizer enhancer and chelated iron

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 7, Issue 3, September 2024.
Abstract Purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) poses a significant challenge to Florida tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) producers due to its ability to puncture plastic mulch, resilient tubers, and rapid rhizome proliferation. Preemergence herbicides effectively suppress purple nutsedge in tomatoes under plastic mulch.

Characterization of agronomic performance and sterility in triploid and diploid cannabinoid hemp

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 116, Issue 5, Page 2470-2482, September/October 2024.
Abstract Cannabinoid hemp is a dioecious crop where pistillate plants are selectively grown to maximize cannabinoid yields. Errant pollination can reduce pistillate flower yields, cannabinoid concentrations, and lead to unmarketable flowers due to the presence of undesirable seeds. We compared pollen sensitivity and agronomic performance of diploid (2n
