Production of platelet-activating factor in slugs.
The land slug, Incilaria bilineata, was shown to contain a large amount of 1-O-alkyl-2-acyl (long chain)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, which accounts for as much as 47% of the choline glycerophospholipid fraction. Since this unique either phospholipid has

A Schmid-Leiman based transformation resulting in perfect inter-correlations of three types of factor score predictors [PDF]
Factor score predictors are to be computed when the individual scores on the factors are of interest. Conditions for a perfect inter-correlation of the regression/best linear factor score predictor, the best linear conditionally unbiased predictor, and the determinant best linear correlation-preserving predictor are presented. When these three types of

Platelet-Activating Factor Induces Epigenetic Modifications in Human Mast Cells [PDF]
UV radiation-induced systemic immune suppression is a major risk factor for skin cancer induction. The migration of dermal mast cells from the skin to the draining lymph nodes has a prominent role in activating systemic immune suppression.

Electrically Insulating Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Materials: A Perspective
Developing electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with inherent electrical insulation and high EMI shielding effectiveness is challenging but important for electronic applications. This perspective summarizes the recent advancements in designing electrically insulating EMI shielding materials and discusses the underlying mechanisms of ...

Essential role of platelet-activating factor receptor in the pathogenesis of Dengue virus infection
Severe dengue infection in humans causes a disease characterized by thrombocytopenia, increased levels of cytokines, increased vascular permeability, hemorrhage, and shock. Treatment is supportive. Activation of platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptor (

Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) may aggravate liver fibrosis. In this study, a novel oral targeting nanoemulsion is fabricated to enhance the therapeutic effect of antifibrotic drug‐pirfenidone (PFD) on fibrosis after TACE. Studies have shown that PFD nanoemulsion can enhance the oral liver targeting effect of PFD, and effectively improve the ...

Matrix Factorizations via the Inverse Function Theorem [PDF]
We give proofs of QR factorization, Cholesky's factorization, and LDU factorization using the inverse function theorem. As a consequence, we obtain analytic dependence of these matrix factorizations which does not follow immediately using Gaussian elimination.
